SOMETHING IN THE (H)AIR – The season’s stars include hair accessories. Those who don’t want to jump in at the deep end can try out Eighties-style hairbands, like those presented by Tom Ford, or hats – better if wide-brimmed – like those seen at Missoni, Marc Jacobs and Alberta Ferretti. And those who want something a bit more original can draw inspiration from tiaras and headpieces made of crystal and feathers (see Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana).
The colour on the catwalk for 2019 is solid. After years of shatush and visible regrowth, the new trend is to create even, uniform effects. This doesn’t mean that light effects are going to disappear, just that they’ll be more gradual and delicate. The main shades are dark chestnut, light blonde and red.
Warm shades ranging from irish blonde to babylights are the perfect combination for pale skin and the new-romantic spirit, conveying elegance and sensuality.
Corvine locks, languid green eyes, porcelain skin and full, sensual lips: the bob is more iconic and erotic than ever before, never going out of fashion and capable of arousing forbidden thoughts while being incredibly bon-ton. The go-anywhere, do anything style!
For those who aren’t afraid to dare and who want something out-of-the-ordinary, moon-like, reflecting the characteristic silvery shade of this satellite, perfect for long, medium and short hair.
Along with extreme and well-defined blondes come more natural or “dirty” blondes as they’re more fashionably known. Easier to maintain, tank to the new tailor-made techniques, perfect for pale skins but also pleasant for amber skins too, sand and satin nuances “dirty” the solid colour and make it more appealing, satisfying a broader range of female complexions.
The purity of diamond-bright lightening and visible contrasting undertones to enhance shine. Light pearl highlights become the common denominator of a trendy diamond drama look.
To express elegance and refinement. This is the blonde par excellence, a timeless trend which demands a lot of time and attention. The use of specific anti-yellowing ingredients to prevent oxidising, along with regular conditioning masks, are a must-have to maintain glam-chic shine and softness.
The real aim of next year’s make-up is to invite you to reveal a new face, playfully and with a touch of irony. A few nude make up proposals and lots of high-impact theatricality. We saw dark smoky eyes, eyes lined with jet-black kajal and emphasised with graphic eyeliners. And while black seems to be the favourite shade, colour also seems to be taking the make-up scene by storm, both for eyes and lips.
This season’s favourite eye colours include green, explored in bright shades along with those closer to the plant world. Deep purples, bronze, burgundy, electric blue and orange make an appearance too. Make-up techniques cover the whole lid (like the proposal by Naeem Khan) or feature a geometric line to emphasise the eyes.
For the first time, Dolce&Gabbana assigned a school and its talents, tutors and students, working as a team, the task of creating hair, makeup and outfit changes for the “All The Lovers” show in Milan. The make-up chosen featured black eyeliner and red lipstick. A very similar look also graced the catwalk during the Chocheng show at NYFW.
The make-up trends for 2019 are clearly dominated by looks that aim to enhance the facial features without excess. The shows of Oscar De La Renta, Bottega Veneta and Roland Mouret gave us light, almost imperceptible eye make-up, starring mascara and thick, well-defined eyelashes. A light stroke of brown pencil at the base of the lashes to add depth, matched with delicate shades of pink for the lids: a touch of invisible magic!
For the woman who dares to be different and loves bright, high-impact make-up, the shows suggest an original combination of deep, full greens and the brightness of gold. This trend comes straight from Naeem Khan’s catwalk. Brilliant, exaggerated eye make-up, decidedly strong, with shading that’s no longer careful and precise, but evident, almost geometrical. The make-up trend in 2019 is all about huge aesthetic impact, but perhaps not for everyone!
Anna Kiki inverts the trend, accentuating brightly coloured lips in contrast with completely nude and imperceptible eye make-up. Matte and satin-finish lipsticks are very popular, with just one important rule: colour sets the trend! Original and exclusive shades created for those who love to dare and aren’t afraid of expressing their personality. Green lipstick, blue lipstick and even red lipstick, but also yellow and chalk white.
